As MONT funding concludes in 2026, our grant and scholarship programs have come to a close. The links below highlight a selection of work made possible through MONT support.

Project Initiation Grants

Since 2016, MONT has awarded more than 60 seed grants (up to $5,000 each) to launch new research efforts for facility users across industry and academia. These awards were designed to spark innovative projects and help researchers secure subsequent funding. The impact of this program includes multiple publications and proof‑of‑concept studies that successfully led to follow‑on support for both academic and industrial partners.

MONT Undergraduate Scholars Program

This initiative offered undergraduates a hands‑on, paid research experience, providing training in state‑of‑the‑art laboratory facilities and opportunities to contribute to original research. Since 2020, MONT has supported 25 undergraduate scholars. Students consistently reported strong outcomes, with many pursuing graduate school or research careers—and a few even changing majors after discovering new interests through their MONT experience.
